Top 5 Makeup Picks

I saw this tag on Paris' blog and thought it was a fun idea. If you haven't, check out My Women stuff. It's a great and very informative blog. It was one of my very first makeup blogs I followed, so I blame Paris for some of my makeup addiction.  Plus, Paris is so friendly!

The idea of the tag is to name your top 5 makeup products. I thought this would be so easy, but I really had to think about the products. So, here goes:

1.Concealer:  NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: This is the only concealer I own. It's that good! I wear shade Vanilla, and it's perfect.

2.Brow Product: I have the lightest most sparse brows ever, so I need a good product to give them some color. I'm liking my Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in shade 40 Brun Cendre.

3.Natural Lip: I'm not one for bright lips, but I like a shade that gives some color and looks natural. My pick for lipstick is NARS Sheer Lipstick in Dolce Vita.

4.Mascara: I've mentioned before I have the world's worst lashes, and it's relatively hard to find a mascara that meets my criteria: lengthens, volumizes, holds a curl and separates lashes. I've found the perfect formula in Mary Kay Lash Love Waterproof Mascara. I hope they never discontinue this one, and it's only $15.

5.Powder Foundation: I had a hard time deciding between foundation and powder. I don't wear one without the other. I'm not a fan of dewy skin on my face, but I do like a natural look. Not too matte or dewy is just right for me. Even though my skin can be dryish, I like Laura Mercier's Smooth Finish Foundation Powder(shade 03) as long as my skin is moisturized properly. This one does not look cakey or patchy, and it does not dry out my skin.

I would love to see your top 5 products! Let me know in the comments or consider yourself tagged.

  1. Hi Dawn, thanks for doing the tag! You know I remember many people used to love the Chanel brow pencil and I'd help many people buy it, but I'd never used it! That good huh? ;)

  2. It is a great one. It looks so natural and applies easily. I normally stick to drugstore brow products , but this one is a game changer. Thanks for commenting!

  3. Hi Dawn :)

Reading your blog so I figured it would only be polite to contribute something, anything. Here goes

    1. Sunday Riley Tinted Primer in Light. It lends a matte finish without powder and although it's sheer, it blurs out pores, evens the dark spots, and generally leaves my skin looking angelic. Whenever I wear this out shopping, I don't get pressured by SAs to try anything :D in fact I got told by two of them, on separate occasions, not to change a single thing. Since it's technically primer it also lasts all day without separating.

    2. Mixed oils and natural serums, anything with passionfruit seed oil or pomegranate seed oil in it really. It normally takes my skin months to heal from the slightest blemish, bruise, scratch, or dermatitic reaction. I've tried nightcreams, lotions, lotions for burn victims, etc. but nothing worked until I started massaging oils into my face before bed. It's totally weird and somewhat miraculous. No more post-blemish dark marks. Right now I'm using Tarte's maracuja oil (passionfruit seed oil), smells like corn oil but I wake up with brighter, less screwed up skin.

    3. MAC Technakohl in Graphblack or Photogravure. I use Technakohl religiously to tightline my upper lashline, right under the lashes. I have an overactive thyroid and it causes my eyes to um.. well, bulge out just a bit. To avoid looking like my eyes are completely round doll eyes, I line inside with the black or dark brown to give them a smaller almond shape. It's the only thing I've found that stays fully pigmented on the waterline and doesn't budge, transfer to the lower lashline, smudge, or get into my eye. Can't live without it. One of these days I'll do a Back2MAC with only empty technakohls.

    4. Nivea lip chap in Cherry Fruityshine. Moisturizing, red tint, doesn't get my hair stuck to my lips and is too sheer to rub off on other people. Lasts longer than the Fresh and Burt's Bees balms in the red tints.

    5. Hourglass concealer in Pearl. The formula is very brightening and the shade is perfect for cancelling out my deep undereye circles without looking grey. Lasts until I take it off, doesn't crease, doesn't dry up. It also blends with every base I've worn it with, no separation, no colour shift. To be fair, I need to repurchase for the fourth time and am wearing NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla as I type this.
